Commissioning a piece of furniture is a highly collaborative process.
Initially it is usual to visit the client’s home to gain a full understanding of their requirements and to get a feeling for the environment into which the finished piece has to fit. We will discuss the function and location of the piece, its dimensions and what timber will work best with the surroundings.

Back at the drawing board, I will work from the ideas discussed and the measurements and photographs taken during that meeting and prepare perhaps two designs which meet the brief. These will then be presented to the client at a second meeting.
When one of the designs is considered acceptable we will then agree a price and a time-scale for delivery and I will take a 50% deposit against the full cost in order to purchase the timber and begin work on the project. The time to delivery will vary depending on my other commitments, but it will usually be at least six months to allow for purchase of suitable timber which may need to dry out in the workshop for several weeks until the correct moisture content for working is reached.
