Ingenuity is required to meet a client's very specific storage requirements whilst also creating a beautiful piece of furniture. It's always an intriguing challenge.

CD/DVD cabinet and tables in English Elm for the Skeltons

When the Skeltons found me they had been searching for six years for pieces to replace their existing sitting-room furniture. They couldn’t find anything quite right and so decided to commission bespoke pieces. I was very happy to visit their home and get a feel for what they liked and what might fit in with their existing furnishings. I designed very simple pieces and was pleased when they chose elm as the timber which seemed very appropriate for their Buckinghamshire home.

They are very pleased with the results and wrote : - “We cannot thank you enough - it will give us many, many years of pleasure.”

Cabinet in English and American Oak

Cabinet in English and American Oak

This cabinet was designed and made during my training with Jonathan Markovitz. The brief was to design a relatively simple piece which incorporated all the basic skills involved in cabinet making - including frame and panel construction, drawer making and veneering. The result is this simple bedside cabinet which is partly made from a beautiful, quarter-sawn board of English Oak from Hatfield Forest.

Kate and Mike's Corner Cabinets

Kate and Mike's Corner Cabinets

My clients needed three corner cabinets for their newly completed living-room extension. Two are display cabinets with internal lighting and designed to sit one on top of the other. The third is a DVD cabinet with shelves for electronic equipment and a triangular drawer for storage.

English oak was chosen to match the airy feel of the new room with its light oak floorboards and large windows. The cabinet door frames are gently curved to give them a softer look and front edges of tops and undersides of the lower rail and drawer front are also curved to lighten the overall feel of the cabinets.

Cabinet in Olive Ash

Cabinet in Olive Ash

The client needed a small cabinet to sit beside her armchair which would allow for the organisation of pens, pencils and remote controls as well as reading and reference books. The timber came from a large tree felled on the Longleat Estate and the cabinet was designed to show off the transition from young, light ash near the bark to the golden olive heartwood at its centre.
