Walnut Display Cabinet
The client wished to have a small, dovetailed cabinet in a dark wood to display a miniature Portmeirion tea service. American Black Walnut was chosen for its depth of colour and a glass shelf holds the large plate in place as a background to the smaller pieces displayed on two levels.
After delivery the customer kindly wrote to say "Thank you for the cabinet you have made for me. It's just what I wanted and your workmanship is a joy" - Pauline Kirton

Coffee Table in Olive Ash
This simple table is based on the earlier design made in walnut but with a plain solid top which shows off the beauty of the rich tones of Olive Ash to great effect.

Motopas Chair in English Walnut
The inspiration for this three legged chair came from a small stool brought back from Zimbabwe, the back of which had been carved out a halved tree trunk with a hole made for the seat and back leg which were also carved out of a single piece of wood. The curve of the two front legs in my version was inspired by the graceful curve of the human back as it runs down from shoulder to thigh. All the pieces for the legs have been steam-bent and then shaped by hand.

Elm Jewellery Box
This simple box is made with mitred and splined joints, wooden hinges and a lid with an overhanging handle which follows the grain of this beautiful timber.

Cabinet in English and American Oak
This cabinet was designed and made during my training with Jonathan Markovitz. The brief was to design a relatively simple piece which incorporated all the basic skills involved in cabinet making - including frame and panel construction, drawer making and veneering. The result is this simple bedside cabinet which is partly made from a beautiful, quarter-sawn board of English Oak from Hatfield Forest.

Dovetail Box in American Black Walnut with Cedar lining
This box featuring hand-cut dovetails, fielded panels top and bottom and a lacquered finish was my first foray into working in hardwoods. Small pieces such as this are a joy to create and make an ideal gift for a special occasion.
